UK Terror Threat (Clarification): 09 January 2015
Following the recent French terrorist events, Knight Associates have received numerous requests for clarification on the UK terrorist threat level, following an increased armed police presence in London.
The current threat level from international terrorism for the UK is assessed as SEVERE. Although UK Security Services are constantly assessing the situation, the threat level has not been changed in light of the French situation (this threat level has been in place since 29 August 2014). The classification for the UK terror threat level ‘SEVERE‘ means that a terrorist attack is highly likely. However, there is currently no specific threat.
Although armed police have been deployed in London since 2012, British Transport Police have now increased armed patrols at London’s St Pancras station to provide reassurance to the public at the Eurostar terminal. Armed and unarmed police patrols are also increased at various critical infrastructure locations and security checks are being enhanced at border checkpoints. The security measures have been introduced as a precautionary basis and in order to maintain and provide enhanced visibility and reassurance to the public.
Members of the public should always remain alert to the danger of terrorism and report any suspicious activity to the police on 999 or the anti-terrorist hotline: 0800 789 321. If your information does not relate to an imminent threat, you can also contact the Security Service via their Freephone line on 0800 111 4645 (free from BT telephones; mobile networks may charge) or 020 7930 9000 (charged at your telephone provider’s normal rates).
